The annual ranking of universities around the world, carried out by the British magazine “Times Higher Education”, ranked Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) #59 among 177 institutions from 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

UFOP was ranked #59 in the current ranking of Universities in Latin America, released by the international organization Times Higher Education (THE) this year. A total of 177 institutions from 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were evaluated.

THE Latin America Universities Rankings rates universities in this region based on 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); International Outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry Income (knowledge transfer). UFOP achieved an overall score of 49.5 points, rising from 76th place in 2020 to 59th in 2021, ranking #31 among the 67 Brazilian universities evaluated and #5 among Minas Gerais universities.UFOP's most prominent score was in Research (57.9 in 2021 and 39.3 in 2020), which corresponds to 34% of the overall score. Other indicators also contributed to the result, such as Teaching (from 46.4 to 49.4), International Outlook (from 28 to 30.3) and Industry Income (from 49.1 to 51.1).

Brazil is the country with the highest level of representation in the ranking, followed by Chile, with 28 institutions ranked, Colombia, with 24, and Mexico, with 23. You can check out the full list of universities here.
