On July 11, International Summer Programme had its opening ceremony at the Noble Hall of the School of Mines, in the beautiful historical center of Ouro Preto.

This first edition of the Program, a pioneer in Brazil, organized by the Coordination of International Affairs (CAINT), has students from four different countries. During three weeks (July 11 to 29), they will participate in a program specially created with the aim to introduce the Brazilian culture, language, dance and typical music, through classes and cultural tours. It will also be an opportunity of interaction between UFOP’s community and the foreign audience.

During the opening lecture, Coordinator of CAINT, Professor Carlos Magno de Souza Paiva, presented the Program and made a brief introduction about the city and UFOP. Attended the event the Dean of Planning, Professor Rodrigo Fernando Bianchi, the Executive Secretary of CAINT, Jaqueline Schultz, Professors Daniel Orey, Marcia Arcuri, Anelise Dutra and Monique Longordo, who will teach the classes of "Brazilian Culture", "Introduction to Ouro Preto’s Museums" and "Portuguese for foreigners", respectively, besides the CAINT team and the Junior Enterprise of Tourism (Completur Jr.).

Continuing the welcome event, there was a coffee break for the participants to meet and prepare to initiate the program’s schedule with “Portuguese for Foreigners" class.

CAINT hopes this pilot project will be a groundbreaking initiative to expand UFOP’s visibility both nationally and internationally and, through the feedback from the participants and contributors, improve the future editions of the Program.
