Proud to be UFOP. Federal University of Ouro Preto was ranked, according to Times Higher Education (THE), as the 46th best University in Latin America. The ranking list about the 50 best universities was published during the first THE Latin America Universities Summit which took place on July 7th, in Bogotá, Colombia. The event was attended by regional leaders, the government and representatives of Latin American Universities to discuss sustainable expansion and internationalization in the Latin American context.

The Latin America’s Best Universities ranking made by THE uses the same thirteen performance indicators as the ranking of the World's Best Universities, yet they were recalibrated to suit the peculiarities of Latin American institutions. Universities are evaluated considering five areas: teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and researchers) and industry income (knowledge transfer).

Among the countries represented in the ranking, Brazil is the country that takes up more positions, with 22 institutions in the top 50, including five in the top 10.

For Professor Carlos Magno de Souza Paiva, Coordinator of CAINT, "international rankings are not the only way to evaluate the quality of universities, but they give a wide visibility to the best evaluated institutions and contribute to establish new international partnerships. UFOP is delighted with the news and considers it an incentive to improve and consolidate itself as one of the leading institutions in the country".
