On October 11th, the Rector of Federal University of Ouro Preto, Prof. Marcone Jamilson Freitas Souza had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Peter Moser, Vice Rector for Facility Management and International Relations, and Prof. Dr. Johannes L. Schenk, Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy, from the Austrian University Montanuniversität Leoben, as well as with the representative of ThyssenKrupp in Brazil, Eliezer Dias.

On that ocassion, it was discussed the proposal of a joint Master Program set in the field of Mining and Metallurgy between Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (Brazil),  Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria) and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), with support from ThyssenKrupp, to be offered in 2018.
Also present at the meeting were the Director of the School of Mines, Professor Issamu Endo, Prof. Adilson Rodrigues da Costa, from the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department of the School of Mines-UFOP and the Executive Secretary of the International Affairs Office, Jaqueline Schultz.

UFOP already has a partnership with Montanuniversität Leoben since 2011, through which 12 Brazilian Master and Doctorate students from the REDEMAT Program have studied in Austria for one semester and have completed an internship in the German company ThyssenKrupp in Duisburg. Three Austrian students have already been in Ouro Preto supported by the same cooperation and interchange agreement. The intention is to strenghten this bond through the development of researches and the offering of joint degrees.
